Floor Area
Measure length and width in feet or meters. Area = Length × Width.
For L-shaped rooms, divide into rectangles and add the areas together.
Wall Area (for Paint)
Measure the perimeter of the room and multiply by the ceiling height. Subtract window and door areas.
Wall area = (perimeter × height) − (windows + doors)
Tips for Accuracy
- Measure at floor level for flooring
- Check for square corners using the 3-4-5 rule
- Add 10% waste factor for flooring materials
- Measure at least twice
