How to Measure for Furniture
Proper measurements prevent costly returns and ensure furniture fits perfectly in your space.
What to Measure
- Room dimensions — length × width of the room
- Doorways — width and height of all doors the furniture must pass through
- Hallways — width of corridors and any turns
- Stairways — width, height, and turning radius
- Target area — exactly where the furniture will sit
Tips
- Always leave at least 30-36 inches (76-91 cm) for walking paths
- Measure diagonals for doorways (furniture can be tilted)
- Create a floor plan with tape or paper cutouts
- Don’t forget ceiling height for tall items
- Measure twice, order once!
